I have updated the discography of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail in re: opera and added a review of the Gelmetti/Hampe DVD with Ruth Ann Swenson and Hans-Peter Blochwitz.

After this long period of laziness, I’m trying to keep up with the backlog. So a review of the DVD of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte from Paris has been just added to the discography.
Still in Straussian mood, I have just added a review of the Zürich Opernhaus’s production of Ariadne auf Naxos on DVD to the discography on re: opera. Although Claus Guth’s régie has its interesting ides, you can really ask yourself Was bleibt von Ariadne? when you see her in a restaurant drugging herself with sleeping pills and taking pictures with a digital camera from Zerbinetta and her troupe…
Yes, even Der Rosenkavalier: it happens to be the days of Empress Maria Theresa, but nobody seems to care about that anymore. In Uwe Eric Laufenberg’s staging for Dresden, we see the Feldmarschallin and Octavian after WWII; in Robert Carsen’s production at the Salzburg Festival, they see themselves just before WWI. But you can read more about that in the comparative review in re: opera (as always, the link is on your right).
Although I have been quite lazy with the reviews on re: opera, I have the honour to inform you that I’m back on track – I have just added a review of Fabio Luisi’s DVD of R. Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier on the discography. You just have to look for the link on your right.
